We are thrilled to announce that Thistle Community Housing has received grant funding from the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority for our homebuyer and financial education initiative.
CEO of Thistle Community Housing, Paul D’Angelo says, “We’ve always been grateful for our partnership with CHFA and their help over the years with our Tax Credit properties. It’s great to be on the receiving end of another type of award from CHFA to help with our work.”
This summer, in partnership with interns from the University of Colorado Boulder, our team worked on creating a resource platform for future homebuyers interested in developing their financial literacy skills. Now live on our website, community members can learn the basics of bank accounts, credit scores, mortgages, and more. We’re also excited to host quarterly resident meetings starting this fall, engaging in-person with residents on a variety of topics, including homebuyer education.
“Our main focus as an affordable housing provider is to better balance housing costs with overall income. At Thistle, we’re trying to do a bit better than that by providing an educational platform on our website where we point to local & proven resources on economic opportunity and wealth building, including homeownership. We hope to take some of the mystery out of the home buying process and encourage individuals and families to start planning for their next housing chapter,” says D’Angelo.
